"If the United States is supposed to uphold "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" how can a sick or dying person without health care have these rights."
~Motivated In Ohio
"Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must - must - redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition re-distributional."

Is Congress Going to Double the Interest on Your Student Loan?
Is Congress Going to Double the Interest on Your Student Loan?: "Millions of young people may have a much harder time paying for an education.
Unless Congress acts soon, millions of college students could see the interest rate on their federal student loans double this summer—adding $5,000 to the cost of an education for students who pay off their loans in 10 years, and around $11,000 over 20 years.
Yet Republicans are claiming that keeping those rates low costs too much and isn't the federal government's job. Rep. Virginia Foxx, chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee, even argued that it's unnecessary for any student to borrow money to go to college in the first place....."
For my story of how bad things got while I was in college, click here. It explains why this is such a bad idea. Things aren't as bad as they were, but things still aren't great. I can only hope that once I start my new job in my field, things will finally turn around.

Reforming a Recalcitrant Military
Reforming a Recalcitrant Military: " At a time when too many of our institutions have let us down, they [the Armed Forces] exceed all expectations. They're not consumed with personal ambition. They don't obsess over their differences. They focus on the mission at hand. They work together ... When you put on that uniform, it doesn't matter if you're black or white; Asian, Latino, Native American; conservative, liberal; rich, poor; gay, straight. When you're marching into battle, you look out for the person next to you, or the mission fails ... you know that there's someone behind you, watching your back.
-President Barack Obama, State of the Union Address, January 24, 2012.
During my first few months in Iraq, my sergeant assaulted and harassed me so much I couldn't take it any more. So I decided to report him. But when I turned him in, they said, "The one common factor in all these problems is you. Don't see this as a punishment, but we're going to have you transferred." Then that same sergeant was promoted right away. I didn't get my promotion for six months ... Everybody's supposed to have a battle buddy in the army, and females are supposed to have one to go to the latrines with, or to the showers - that's so you don't get raped by one of the men on your own side. But because I was the only female there, I didn't have a battle buddy. My battle buddy was my gun and my knife.

Deadbeat Dad Joe Walsh Says Debate Over Birth Control Has Nothing To Do With Women (VIDEO)
Deadbeat Dad Joe Walsh Says Debate Over Birth Control Has Nothing To Do With Women (VIDEO): "Deadbeat dad and Tea Party Rep. Joe Walsh is at it again. Involving himself in issues he is woefully unqualified to be involved in, Walsh sat in his chair during the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on birth control last week and complained about President Obama’s new rules about contraceptives.
As part of Darrell Issa’s inquisition, no women were permitted to testify about birth control. Instead, the Republican head hunter invited a bunch of He-Man woman haters, also known as religious bigots, to speak on the issue of birth control, even though they lack the necessary anatomy to actually qualify to speak at such a hearing...."
What an asshat. This has EVERYTHING to do with women since it's us it's affecting. I don't give a shit if some religious organization doesn't want their insurance company to provide it or not. Every woman is entitled to these medications, especially if they need them to treat Fibroid Tumors or PMDD or any other medical disorder that only affects WOMEN!
