Big Brother isn't watching you

Big Brother isn't watching you: "Dismissing rioters as mindless is futile rhetoric. However unacceptable the UK riots, we need to ask why they are happening.

I no longer live in London. I've been transplanted to Los Angeles by a combination of love and money; such good fortune and opportunity, in both cases, you might think disqualify me from commenting on matters in my homeland. Even the results of Britain's Got Ice-Factor may lay prettily glistening beyond my remit now that I am self-banished.

To be honest when I lived in England I didn't really care too much for the fabricated theatrics of reality TV. Except when I worked for Big Brother, then it was my job to slosh about in the amplified trivia of the housemates/inmates. Sometimes it was actually quite bloody interesting. Particularly the year that Nadia won. She was the Portuguese transsexual. Remember? No? Well, that's the nature of the medium; as it whizzes past the eyes it seems very relevant but the malady of reality TV stars is that their shelf life expires, like dog years, by the power of seven. To me it seems as if Nadia's triumph took place during the silver jubilee, we had a street party..."

The Catholic Church And The GOP Define Sexual Intercourse As a Human Being

The Catholic Church And The GOP Define Sexual Intercourse As a Human Being: "Since the rise of Christianity, the Catholic Church has played a leadership role in nearly every part of the civilized world and its influence extended beyond Europe into South America and during the Crusades touched the lives of Muslims in the so-called Holy Land. During the Tudor dynasty under the reign of Henry VIII, the Reformation blunted the Vatican’s reach in England but it has maintained power and influence in Europe and South America. When John F. Kennedy, a Catholic, was running for the presidency, there were unfounded fears that if he was elected the Pope would control American policy but those fears were squashed when a gunman’s bullet entered the young Catholic president’s brain. Fast forward to today, and the Catholic Church is exerting influence in American politics that began in earnest with California’s Proposition 8 that banned same-sex marriage and now, the Church is influencing the United States Congress and nearly half of all 50 states...."

Tell Democrats to Stand Up for Progressive Principles

DEAR FELLOW DEMOCRATS:

Democrats get six seats on the committee charged with cutting our deficit. And those Democrats should speak with one voice when it comes to these three progressive principles.

1. MEDICARE
We believe that any solution that ends Medicare as we know it–by slashing benefits or turning it into a voucher program–is no solution at all, and we will oppose it.

2. SOCIAL SECURITY
We believe that Social Security is a promise that must be kept. It provides economic security to millions of vulnerable Americans, did not cause the budget problem, and should not be cut as part of the solution.

3. SHARED SACRIFICE
We believe that we all must share the sacrifice–and that includes big corporations and the wealthy.

Democrats believe in fiscal responsibility. But with Republicans attempting to ram their extreme agenda through by force, I urge you to stand firm in support of these uniting principles.

48. Republicans invaded Iraq for oil, so Iraq should be allowed to invade Texas to get it back.

93. The Republican answer to the oil spill was to apologize to BP, a foreign oil company.
94. Democrats will be working hard to bring jobs to Americans, while the Republicans tea bag each other in the middle of the aisles.
95. Voter disenfranchisement is immoral and un-American, that’s why Republicans do it.
96. Republicans would let your house burn down unless you pay them to put it out.
97. Democrats want to take care of the sick. Republicans take their credit cards and then deny them medical attention.
98. Republicans say teachers are union thugs, then proceed to rape and mug the entire middle class on behalf of corporations.
99. Republicans think rape isn’t a crime, but miscarriages are.
100. Republicans are idiots and arguing with them is a waste of time!

Bottom line? If you want to anger a conservative, tell them the truth.

The Social Safety Net Was Constructed As A Result Of Corporate Greed: "The current attitude coming from Republicans and conservatives is, why do we even need that socialistic safety net? All it does is create lazy people and keeps them economically stagnant.

Our safety net was implemented in reaction to years and even generations of a lack of a living wage and a comfortable retirement. Back in the late 1800s, the working people of this country were in the same economic situation as many people are today, but they didn’t have the safety net to catch them if they fell onto hard times.

Republican Political Theology Turns Reality On its Head

Republican Political Theology Turns Reality On its Head: "It seems incredible that the Republicans can claim that our budget deficit crisis is the fault of Barack Obama. If you go back and look at the historical record, you will see that the administrations of Democratic presidents increased the debt less than Republican presidents. It is always the Republicans who are the spenders. This is indisputable fact based on the numbers themselves.

It is also indisputable that the economy performs better (including GDP growth and employment) under Democratic administration. From 1948-2007, per capital GDP grew 2.8 percent under Democrats; it grew only 1.6% under Republicans.

It was Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush who swelled the size of government, not Democratic presidents – Bill Clinton shrank the size of government.

The debt ceiling has nothing to do with increased spending, only with the government being able to pay money it already owes.

These are all facts, facts the Republicans don’t want Americans to know...."

Reply from Speaker Boner

This is the reply I got from Speaker Boner from an email I sent him a couple of weekends ago when that #FuckYouWashington was going around on Twitter.

Dear Ms.

Thank you contacting me regarding the Budget Control Act. It's good to hear from you.

It's clear that Washington's reckless spending binge is hurting private-sector job growth across the country. That's why I said President Obama's request for an increase in the national debt limit could not pass unless it included spending cuts that exceed the debt hike, reforms to restrain future spending, and no job-crushing tax hikes. The Budget Control Act meets that test by:

Cutting and capping spending by $21 billion next year and $917 billion over the next 10 years;

Advancing the cause of a Balanced Budget Amendment (the best mechanism for restraining the growth of government long-term);
Keeping the focus on spending cuts by requiring a joint-committee of Congress to identify additional deficit reduction of at least $1.5 trillion by the end of the year; and

Protecting families and job creators from tax hikes demanded by President Obama.

The bill is a positive step toward stopping Washington from spending money it doesn't have - but it's only a step. We can celebrate when a Balanced Budget Amendment is ratified, the deficit is fixed, and our economy has returned to creating jobs. Until then, we have a lot of work to do.

Thank you again for contacting me. Your ideas, comments, and questions help make possible my goal of leading a House of Representatives that listens and reflects the will of the American people. I hope you'll keep speaking out by:

The myth of the job creator: "In their drive to restore some sort of economic equity to our society, decrease our deficit and restore some semblance of balance to the federal budget, President Obama and Congressional Democrats have repeatedly called for closing corporate tax loopholes and increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Poll after poll has shown that the American public, and even a strong cross section of Republicans, look favorably upon this idea. And who could blame them? At a time when the rich are getting ever richer while everyone else is wondering how they will keep their heads above water and figure out how to pay for college for their kids, it only makes moral and logical sense that those who are well off should make a little bit of a larger contribution to bring out nation's economy and people back from the brink..."

The Debt Deal's Failure

The Debt Deal's Failure: "In narrow economic terms, the debt deal is actually not a big deal, neither as good as its advocates claim nor as terrifying as its opponents fear. The actual cut to the 2012 budget, the only budget over which this Congress has control, is $21 billion out of total expenditures of $3.7 trillion—a pittance. Everything else can and will be changed by future Congresses. What the deal does is kick tough choices down the road, this time to a congressional supercommission that will have to come up with a larger plan to reduce debt. And it does nothing to spur growth, without which the debt will expand well above projections. That’s why the usually circumspect Mohamed El- Erian, head of Pimco, the world’s largest bond fund, grades the deal somewhere between an incomplete and a fail. “Other than eliminating default risk emanating from a self-manufactured crisis,” he writes, “there is nothing good about America’s debt ceiling debacle.”..."

Republicans are master liars and it has become so normal for them, it is difficult to know if they actually believe their own lies or are just parroting the party line. Democrats are more diplomatic and appear timid for not speaking the truth in a way the average American can understand exactly what they mean. Apparently during the debt ceiling negotiations, at least one Democrat accused the teabaggers of being terrorists for holding the economy hostage to get the spending cuts they wanted and if it is true, it was apropos to the situation and entirely accurate based on Mitch McConnell’s admission of holding the debt limit hostage. The truth is, the teabaggers have been terrorizing America since their ascendance shortly after President Obama took office..."

Bill Maher: Democrats Need Their Own Psychos To Take Out The Tea Party

I'm a Fan of Jesus, But Not of His Fan Club

Lately I've been questioning my religion, a lot. There are two reasons for this: The crazy extreme right wing of Christianity, and the bible.

The extreme right wing of Christianity has been driving me crazy for a while. To the point I'd like to beat most of them upside the head with a bible. I really don't like when they blast people for other stuff when their own hands aren't clean. It says in the Gospel of John that whomever is without sin can throw the first stone. The Gospel of Matthew also says not to judge people or to be a hypocrite. I see these people do these things so often and it pisses me off. I especially see it when it comes to politics. Last I knew Jesus didn't resort to name calling or belittling people because they disagreed with him.

It's gotten to the point that I don't even want to be associated with Christianity anymore. These people turned something good into something hateful. I don't know whether I'll just say I'm a follower of Christ or Agnostic or what. I'm still trying to figure that out. Because I really don't want to be associated with something like this. Especially when it's starting to turn into a cult. There are days I wonder, if these people were able to, if they'd be stoning people in the streets for going against their belief system. But then again, we are starting to see Christian terrorists turn up again. Apparently these people forgot that the bible said that you shouldn't kill people.

These extremists can be some of the most hateful, hurtful, intolerant and judgmental people I know. I stopped going to church because my pastor didn't like my answers when he'd ask everyone the same question at youth group. I refuse to have someone tell me how I should think, feel or react to anything. And this is what it's come down too. These people try and turn everyone into mindless cretins that repeat everything they hear or see.

And then there's the fact that countless people have used Christianity as a means to commit countless atrocities through out history. Like the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the burning of 'witches' at Salem. No wonder people don't like the Christian religion. Oh and then there's Westboro and countless other organizations that are associated as being Christian spewing their hate too.

With the bible, the more I find out what's in it, the more I shake my head in disbelief. I don't know how a loving God would of set some of these rules. Like making a woman who got raped marry her rapist(it's in Deuteronomy 22:28-29 if you don't believe me). And in the New Testament its apparently shameful for women to speak in church(1 Corinthians 14:33-35). Don't get me wrong, there's good stuff in the bible. But there's also a lot of stuff I really don't agree with.

I also question a lot of things which is what got me into this boat in the first place. I think that parts of the bible probably are what God actually said, and that some parts are mans interpretation of it. And I'm sure that there's parts of it that people just put in there. There's also the fact that the Vatican has done so many things to the bible I don't think that anyone really knows for sure which parts of the bible are true or not. There's also missing chapters and one's that will never be published. I'm sure because there's stuff in there that the Vatican doesn't want people to know.

I also like to think that God is a loving God and accepts people for who they are. I know that there's things that people shouldn't do and stuff, like murder. But still, a loving God you would think would also be an understanding God and a forgiving God. That's what I like to believe anyway. There are people out there who say God is like that, but if He is, why is he so against gays? And various other groups of people? To me that's just weird and doesn't really make any sense. I also don't think that God would be mad at the government for helping people. I'd like to think He's proud of the governments who do it. Does the bible say that the churches should do it? So I've been told. But if they're so great at doing it, why is this recession so bad? Why was the Great Depression so bad? How come so many people have to depend on food stamps, or Section 8 Housing, or unemployment? How many churches have given people jobs who need them?

Two interesting facts I found out today. Apparently 'hate the sin, love the sinner' isn't anywhere in the bible. Nor was it said by a Christian. Gandhi said it, and he happened to be Hindu and countless other things. For those people who say that the Quran says that it says to kill people who don't believe in Allah. The same exact thing happened in the Old Testament to anyone who did not seek God(2 Chronicles 15:12-13).

"While I respect the Judeo-Christian ethic, as well as the Eastern philosophies and of course the teachings of Mohammed, I find that organised religion has corrupted those believes to justify countless atrocities throughout history. If I were to attend church, I'd be a hypocrite."
