Recently, we've seen a huge spur in the War on Women. With strict abortion bills and Personhood Amendments and such, things have gotten pretty scary when it comes to a woman's rights. Especially when we have those rights via the constitution. Many of these things have been put in place by Christians and people of a similar faith. It's been making me wonder how much they know of what goes on in the bible, and if the bible really doesn't support abortions. I had also heard Cenk Uygur mention a couple of times on The Young Turks that abortion does take place in the bible, and that there's a couple of instances where it's actually ok. I did some digging on the internet and finally found a passage or two that I believe he may have been talking about. I also found some other passages I'm not sure if he was talking about them but they play into what I'm trying to research.
All of these instances are in the Old Testament. There's Christians out there who say that 'We don't go by the Old Testament anymore!' Like hell you don't. If you didn't go by it, then why do you fight so hard against evolution? Why do you follow the Ten Commandments? Why do you go off of the countless other things that are in the Old Testament, if you don't go off of it anymore? But, alas, this is another topic for another day.
Here are four examples of what I've been researching that I've found so far:
- Numbers 5:11-21 The Test for an Unfaithful Wife: In this chapter of Numbers, a man can take a woman to a priest if he thinks that she's been unfaithful and force her to have an abortion. The priest will giver her a bitter drink and place a curse upon her with the help of God. If she was faithful apparently the drink won't kill the fetus, but if she was unfaithful, God will give her an abortion. It does actually say that He will cause her to miscarry, but to me that's still an abortion even if it's said in different terms.
- Numbers 31 Vengeance on the Midianites: In this chapter, Moses tells his soldiers in verse 17 to kill all of the boys, and all of them women who have slept with a man. He doesn't tell them to spare the women who are pregnant.
- Hosea 9 The LORD Will Punish Israel: In verse 14, to punish Israel, God will "Give them a miscarrying woman and dry breasts." In verse 16, "Even though they give birth, I will put their beloved children to death."
- Hosea 13 The LORD’s Anger Against Israel: In verse 17, apparently because God was so angry with these people, it was ok to have this happen: "their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open."
The other versus, some of which were carried out by man in the name of God. And if that's the case, God really has no control over that. Especially since we all have free will. But, if God did what they asked in some of the other cases, how is that a loving God that is against abortion?

Good points there. I have to link to this.
Thanks! I just want to help inform the misinformed. Because I was among them at one point. It's pretty frustrating. I hate being lied too. And the more I found out about what I've been lied to about when it comes to Christianity, the more pissed off I get.
OT: I informed an old classmate today who was happy that Breast Cancer Awareness bible got pulled from that Christian bookstore shelves that just about anything that gets made over seas runs the risk of being made by a woman who was raped and forced to have an abortion. It's really interesting to see people so happy over something as trivial and stupid as that, and not know who makes their clothes.
Exactly, they use Religion as an excuse, not a way to live.
It really isn't.
