Occupations across the country have born the brunt of some violent police tactics, and in a world where everyone has a camera-phone, a lot of their brutish behavior has been caught in photographs and on video.
Police work is difficult and dangerous, and the majority of officers on the street behave like pros. When it comes to controlling crowds of angry protesters, they're often put into tense situations and ordered to do things they may not want to do by commanders who are far removed from the scene. Legislative language that emerged from the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday afternoon would mandate the automatic, indefinite military detention of noncitizens apprehended in the United States who are suspected members of Al Qaeda or associated groups. The wording, which is part of a must-pass bill to fund the military, also appears to allow the indefinite military detention of citizens and legal permanent residents. The bill would also extend restrictions on transfers of detainees from Guantánamo Bay, though only for one year...."

I was at the post office today for about 10 minutes. There were at least 10-15 people there while I was there. And people we're constantly coming and going. To me, it seems like the USPS is still going strong. And the would be if Congress didn't make the stupid choices that they did to kill the USPS. We need to stand up for the USPS!
Bloomberg Lied: Thousands Of OWS Library Books Missing, Feared Destroyed
The OWS library people who have been to the garage where their property was supposedly being safely stored are reporting that it looks like the Mayor’s office lied about the status of their property. According to the Occupy Wall Street Library, “There are only about 25 boxes of books; many of the books are destroyed. Laptops here but destroyed. Can’t find tent or shelves.” Another report, “Many books destroyed. Most equipment -and structures missing. . . most of library is missing (ALL of the reference section btw), damaged or destroyed...."
It's starting to look like Fahrenheit 451 is becoming a reality in the US.

And on Monday, the New York Times published a story about child deaths in homes that have embraced the teachings of To Train Up a Child, a book by Christian preacher Michael Pearl that advocates using a switch on children as young as six months old.
What many people may not realize is that in the evangelical alternative universe of the home school movement, tightly knit church communities and the following of a number of big-time leaders and authors, physical punishment of children has been glorified for years...."

The Pill: Not Just For Pregnancy Prevention
The nonprofit Guttmacher Institute, using federal survey data from the National Survey of Family Growth, found that 14 percent of pill users said they were taking the medication for a purpose other than contraception.
