"If the United States is supposed to uphold "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" how can a sick or dying person without health care have these rights."
~Motivated In Ohio
"Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must - must - redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition re-distributional."

The Dirty Little Red State Secret: Welfare Disguised as Defense Spending
The Dirty Little Red State Secret: Welfare Disguised as Defense Spending: "Charged with finding the cuts to balance the budget for the debt ceiling debacle that Republicans built, Senator Kyl and his Republican friends cry foul when the cuts come near home.
If you’re wondering why Republicans are whining about possible cuts to the defense budget in the Super Committee that wouldn’t even be in place had Republicans not held the country hostage over raising the debt ceiling, one of the main reasons is because they hail from districts and or states that rely on military spending, or they are chairman of the Armed Services Committee or the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Charged with finding $1.5 trillion in cuts to reduce the budget, John Kyl (R-AZ) threatened to quit the Super Committee today if defense cuts were on the table. At a luncheon held by the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation, CNN reports that Kyl said cuts should come from “entitlement” programs like Medicare and Social Security, not defense spending....."

5 Kicked Out and 3 Arrested at Paul Ryan Town Hall For Asking Questions
5 Kicked Out and 3 Arrested at Paul Ryan Town Hall For Asking Questions: "Paul Ryan held his PPV town hall event at Klemmer’s Banquet Hall in Milwaukee. When some protesters who had paid their $15 stood up and asked him questions about jobs and the Bush tax cuts, Ryan not only had them kicked out. He also had three of them arrested.
The protesters got involved when Rep. Ryan tried to claim that our job crisis is directly related to our debt crisis. One person stood up and asked, “Our debt is out of control because of the tax cuts you’re giving…Our unemployment in 2003 was 6.2% before the tax cuts went through. Now our unemployment rate is 9.1%. What are you doing to create jobs, Congressman?”...."

Labor Day
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

Ohio Becomes First American State To Sell Prison To Private Company
Ohio Becomes First American State To Sell Prison To Private Company: "COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A lockup along the shores of Lake Erie has become the first state prison in the nation to be sold to a private company.
Lake Erie Correctional Institution in northeastern Ohio's Ashtabula County is the only one of five state prisons up for sale that will be sold, state officials said Thursday. Corrections Corporation of America will buy it for $72.7 million, more than the $50 million needed from the privatization effort to balance the state's prison budget.
The four other prisons for sale didn't generate offers advantageous to taxpayers, state officials said.
CCA, the nation's largest prison operator, takes control of the Lake Erie facility in Conneaut on Dec. 31, pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the move....."

Religious Leaders Are Not Banned From The Ceremony At Ground Zero
Religious Leaders Are Not Banned From The Ceremony At Ground Zero: "At America’s founding, the Constitution’s framers made sure the government would never establish a state religion in the future because they knew the inclination of Christians was to force their beliefs on a population, and thankfully they had the foresight to protect future generations from religious tyranny. Although plutocracy and corporatism are a clear and present danger to America, they pale in comparison to Dominionists who are the greatest threat to our democracy. Despite the Constitution’s prohibition on religious interference in government, Christian entitlement to rule America is creeping into every aspect of society.
The latest installment of the religious right’s entitlement agenda is the 10th anniversary commemoration of the terrorist’s attacks on 9/11. It is not surprising that Christian conservatives are condemning Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s decision to bar clergy-led prayer at the ceremony, but their assertion that religious groups played a central role in the response to the tragedy informs their self-gratifying importance syndrome that without religion, New Yorkers and America could not have recovered from the attacks. No-one disputes the important assistance various churches provided to rescue workers, but at the time, all Americans were offering some type of assistance whether it was moral support, monetary help, or ordinary citizens around the country lining up to donate blood...."
