The Koch Is My Shepherd: Fox Uses Goat Herder Rules To Attack Obama
The Koch Is My Shepherd: Fox Uses Goat Herder Rules To Attack Obama: "In a sign that their perpetual outrage machine may have the summer blues, Fox and Friends got outraged that Obama administration is now required that goat herders be provided with clean beds.
Steve Doocy said, “For instance the government is going to require the people who hire these goat herders and sheepherders who are largely migrant farmers from another country to have separate sleeping units for each person, each unit has got have a comfortable bed and clean mattress, and the wall near the cooking areas must be fire resistant, so here in the name of making things better for the goat herders they’re giving the people who hire the goat herders a headache because they are going to have follow all these federal regulations.”
Michelle Malkin added, “I think the most important thing about this these goat herders are being imported and one wonders if there isn’t anybody else in this country everybody talks about American jobs, American jobs if there isn’t somebody who wouldn’t want to have these cushy jobs with a cell phone supplied by the government, or guaranteed by the government anyway, and I would like to know how many people exactly we’re bringing into this country to do these jobs that you’d think somebody else would want to do.”..."

8 Ways Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert Show More Leadership Than Our "Leaders": "During Jon Stewart's and Stephen Colbert's tenure spoofing news and politics from Comedy Central (for 12 and six years, respectively), they’ve evolved into two of the most truthful, if sarcastic, journalists on television. But in recent months, they’ve graduated from their media posts and started doing what we want our lawmakers to do—speak honestly, directly and straightforwardly about the most important issues of the day without any vested (or monetary) interests...."

Dog mourns at casket of fallen Navy SEAL
Dog mourns at casket of fallen Navy SEAL: "Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson lay in a coffin, draped in an American flag, in front of a tearful audience mourning his death in Afghanistan. Soon an old friend appeared, and like a fellow soldier on a battlefield, his loyal dog refused to leave him behind.
Tumilson’s Labrador retriever, Hawkeye, was photographed lying by Tumilson’s casket in a heart-wrenching image taken at the funeral service in Tumilson’s hometown of Rockford, Iowa, earlier this week. Hawkeye walked up to the casket at the beginning of the service and then dropped down with a heaving sigh as about 1,500 mourners witnessed a dog accompanying his master until the end....."

The White Supremacist Roots Of The Tea Party’s Obama Hate
The White Supremacist Roots Of The Tea Party’s Obama Hate: "Every country has nationalistic pride and it does not matter how oppressive the government is, or how corrupt its leaders are, most people are fiercely proud of their country. Americans are as nationalistic as any people on the planet and one of the greatest aspects of this country is the diversity of the people who come together in times of strife to overcome any obstacle. There are a great number of people in America who believe nationalism is defined by the racial makeup of the population, and these racial supremacists harken back to the founding of the country when wealthy white landowners controlled all aspects of society, something that any decent American finds revolting. For the past two years or so, the teabaggers have been labeled as racists for the homogeneity of the group that is most certainly white. Teabaggers deny they are racists, but when 99% of the group is white and they rail against the first African American president for imagined transgressions before he set his administration’s policies, it is impossible to see them as anything but racists...."

Big Government? Obama Has 273,000 Fewer Federal Employees Than Reagan: "Every single Republican today talks about being a Reagan conservative. This is a conservative that believes in small government, reducing federal spending and ultimately runs a lean and mean government. They talk about this stuff in campaigns, but in practice they failed miserably.
In fact HISTORICALLY, it is has been Democratic presidents who have reduced the size of the federal government. The Republicans have lied to the people so much that I believe the current crop somehow BELIEVES the history as they have been told, rather than researching the facts for themselves. This may be a stretch, but I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt...."

Rape Culture 101
Rape Culture 101: "Frequently, I receive requests to provide a definition of the term "rape culture." I've referred people to the Wikipedia entry on rape culture, which is pretty good, and I like the definition provided in Transforming a Rape Culture:
A rape culture is a complex of beliefs that encourages male sexual aggression and supports violence against women. It is a society where violence is seen as sexy and sexuality as violent. In a rape culture, women perceive a continuum of threatened violence that ranges from sexual remarks to sexual touching to rape itself. A rape culture condones physical and emotional terrorism against women as the norm.
In a rape culture both men and women assume that sexual violence is a fact of life, inevitable as death or taxes. This violence, however, is neither biologically nor divinely ordained. Much of what we accept as inevitable is in fact the expression of values and attitudes that can change.
But my correspondents—whether they are dewy noobs just coming to feminism, advanced feminists looking for a source, or disbelievers in the existence of the rape culture—always seem to be looking for something more comprehensive and less abstract: What is the rape culture? What are its borders? What does it look like and sound like and feel like?...."
We do live in a rape culture. I've been subjected to it multiple times over my life. Guys treating my body like public property thinking they can hit my ass whenever they feel like it. I normally tell when they do it that it's their only warning and next time I will hit them. I am now thinking that I will now immediately backhand them after reading this blogpost.

Cop Rapes Woman at Gunpoint, 11-Year-Old Rape Victim Smeared, Accuser Sued for $2 Million: Is US Society Failing Victims?
Cop Rapes Woman at Gunpoint, 11-Year-Old Rape Victim Smeared, Accuser Sued for $2 Million: Is US Society Failing Victims?: "What is it with our inability to find justice for victims?
If events of the last few months have sent any sort of message to women in America it's this: if you're raped or sexually assaulted, justice won't be on your side.
What happens when the people who are supposed to protect you are the rapists themselves--such as in NY, when cops on separate occasions have been accused of committing rape? What happens when the press and public spend as much time parsing a victim's history and "character" than the person accused of brutally assaulting her (like the New York Post calling Dominique Strauss-Khan's accuser a "hooker")? What conclusion can we draw when a rape victim's attempt to confront a powerful entity is publicly acknowledged as futile?
Women can't win. The structures, institutions and organizations supposed to help rape victims are often simply tools of a social attitude that blames them for the crimes committed against them...."
"Now, should we treat women as independent agents, responsible for themselves? Of course. But being responsible has nothing to do with being raped. Women don’t get raped because they were drinking or took drugs. Women do not get raped because they weren’t careful enough. Women get raped because someone raped them."

Gov. Corbett’s Education Cuts Force Pennsylvania School District To Use Sheep To Cut Grass: "When Pennsylvania Gov. Texas Legislators and Christian Groups Fight to Insert God Into Vets' Funerals -- Against Families' Wishes: "Christian military groups are suing the VA to force families to include prayer during the burial services of veterans.
Shouldn't veterans and their families have the right to decide whether religion -- and what kind -- is welcome at their own funerals? The Department of Veterans Affairs says yes. Instead, they want to be allowed to impose unwanted Christian ceremonies on the military funerals of everybody who has served the red, white, and blue...."

Why You Don't Want Rick Perry Making Decisions About Your Sex Life
Why You Don't Want Rick Perry Making Decisions About Your Sex Life: "The belief that sex is "immoral" pushes Conservatives to support abstinence-only, sex-is-immoral education and policy, even though it is proven to be harmful.
Governor Rick Perry of Texas has thrown his hat into the presidential contender ring, and his nascent campaign has quickly came to demonstrate why the blurring of the distinctions between church and state are so dangerous, especially to women. His campaign has surprisingly been even more of a demonstration of this than that of Michele Bachmann’s, even though the mainstream media consensus is Bachmann is more of a theocrat. Part of the reason is that Perry has been the governor of Texas for over a decade now, and his experience and power as an executive has simply given him more chances to blur the lines....and more reasons to be called out for it...."

Cheap Labor Conservatives Will Destroy The Middle Class: "You’ve heard it all before, taxes and regulations are the reasons why American has lost more than 40,000 U.S. manufacturing plants between 2001 and 2009 (including 36 percent of factories employing more than 1,000 workers). Also From 2000 to 2009, 5.5 million or 32 percent of all manufacturing jobs were lost, all because of the oppressive regulations of the EPA and taxes.

Obama Admin Blocks Bank Investigations?
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! If anyone else had done this they would be in jail for the rest of their life but if people in suits do it its somehow ok?!
"Why am I surprised that these young people behave destructively, "mindlessly", motivated only by self-interest? How should we describe the actions of the city bankers who brought our economy to its knees in 2010? Altruistic? Mindful? Kind? But then again, they do wear suits, so they deserve to be bailed out, perhaps that's why not one of them has been imprisoned. And they got away with a lot more than a few fucking pairs of trainers. These young people have no sense of community because they haven't been given one. They have no stake in society because Cameron's mentor Margaret Thatcher told us there's no such thing. If we don't want our young people to tear apart our communities then don't let people in power tear apart the values that hold our communities together."

Why Is the Military Spending Millions on Christian Contractors Bent on Evangelizing US Soldiers?
Why Is the Military Spending Millions on Christian Contractors Bent on Evangelizing US Soldiers?: "Why do Christian contractors play such a prominent role in our military?
When the average American thinks of military spending on religion, they probably think only of the money spent on chaplains and chapels. And, yes, the Department of Defense (DoD) does spend a hell of a lot of money on these basic religious accommodations to provide our troops with the opportunity to exercise their religion while serving our country. But that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the DoD's funding of religion. Also paid for with taxpayer dollars are a plethora of events, programs, and schemes that violate not only the Constitution, but, in many cases, the regulations on federal government contractors, specifically the regulation prohibiting federal government contractors receiving over $10,000 in contracts a year from discriminating based on religion in their hiring practices...."

5 Reasons Capitalism Has Failed
5 Reasons Capitalism Has Failed: "The root cause of our recent turmoil is the failure of the dominant economic paradigm -- global corporate capitalism.
We live in interesting times. The global economy is splintering. U.S. voters hate all politicians and there's political unrest throughout the world. The root cause of this turmoil is the failure of the dominant economic paradigm -- global corporate capitalism.
The modern world is ruled by multinational corporations and governed by a capitalistic ideology that believes: Corporations are a special breed of people, motivated solely by self-interest. Corporations seek to maximize return on capital by leveraging productivity and paying the least possible amount for taxes and labor. Corporate executives pledge allegiance to their directors and shareholders. The dominant corporate perspective is short term, the current financial quarter, and the dominant corporate ethic is greed, doing whatever it takes to maximize profit...."

Only In The GOP Mind Is Creating 1 Million Jobs A Bad Thing: "The beautiful aspect of a democracy is that two sides proffer solutions to a problem and then discuss the merits and liabilities of each leading to an eventual compromise and agreement that both sides agree will solve the problem. Since President Obama has been in office, Republicans have avoided any discourse with Democrats and insisted that if their solutions are not followed, there will be no compromise and no solution regardless the issue. It has not mattered what issue of national importance arose, Republicans opposed President Obama for the sake of obstruction and no other reason. GOP may OK tax increase that Obama hopes to block: "News flash: Congressional Republicans want to raise your taxes. Impossible, right? GOP lawmakers are so virulently anti-tax, surely they will fight to prevent a payroll tax increase on virtually every wage-earner starting Jan. 1, right?

7 Ways Oil and Gas Companies Are Trying to Buy Positive Public Sentiment for Fracking: "Their high-dollar campaign to put a happy face on this risky practice is designed to challenge the growing movement to ban fracking that's heating up across the country.
Sometimes reality is stranger than science fiction. That's the case with hydraulic fracturing, or fracking -- a dangerous technology that's much like setting off a giant pipe bomb four or five miles underground. Millions of gallons of water, chemicals and sand are injected deep into shale rock formations at high pressures to break open the rock and release the gas.
The promoters say its safe. Or that's what the oil and gas industry would have you think, anyway. But behind the scenes, the industry is fighting tooth and nail to keep fracking unregulated, and its claims of safety, economic prosperity and energy security unquestioned. Their high-dollar campaign to put a happy face on this risky practice is designed to challenge the growing movement to ban fracking that's heating up across the country: people are saying no to this risky technology that, if pursued, will negatively impact our health, water, and economy...."

Read My Lips Koch Brothers, No New Tax Cuts: "Americans are known for their generosity, charity, and concern toward foreigners who suffer during times of natural disasters, but recently, American conservatives have demonstrated that their lack of concern for their countrymen who are poor and disadvantaged through no fault of their own. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs and homes to a less-than-ideal economy and Republicans have answered with cuts to unemployment benefits and social safety nets belying generosity and charity for their own citizens. Many Americans consider it a privilege to pay their taxes because the government used to take care of our most vulnerable citizens. Republicans though, hate taxes when they are used to fund government aid programs, but they depend on them to fund their wars and tax breaks for the rich. This week, Warren Buffet wrote an op/ed where he said the wealthy should pay more taxes because of the opportunity this country has given them, and that they should share the sacrifice middle class America shoulders...."
