"If the United States is supposed to uphold "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" how can a sick or dying person without health care have these rights."
~Motivated In Ohio
"Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must - must - redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition re-distributional."

The Attempt To Evict Occupy Wall Street Has Only Made It Stronger
The Attempt To Evict Occupy Wall Street Has Only Made It Stronger: "After thousands of people turned out to help clean Liberty Plaza, New York City backed off their plan to evict the protesters, and learned that attempts to muscle the 99% only make them stronger.
Mayor Bloomberg announced his retreat via a statement from Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway, “Late last night, we received notice from the owners of Zuccotti Park – Brookfield Properties – that they are postponing their scheduled cleaning of the park, and for the time being withdrawing their request from earlier in the week for police assistance during their cleaning operation. Our position has been consistent throughout: the City’s role is to protect public health and safety, to enforce the law, and guarantee the rights of all New Yorkers. Brookfield believes they can work out an arrangement with the protesters that will ensure the park remains clean, safe, available for public use and that the situation is respectful of residents and businesses downtown, and we will continue to monitor the situation.”...."

The Job Killers
The Job Killers: "Among the many ritual ablutions a Republican presidential contender must perform is the signing of Grover Norquist's "Taxpayer Protection Pledge," a document the length and subtlety of a bumper sticker that commits politicians to oppose "any and all efforts to increase taxes." To date, all the GOP hopefuls, save Jon Huntsman, have signed on, as have 238 House members (99 percent of the GOP caucus), 41 senators, and more than 1,200 state legislators (PDF).
Norquist, a professional conservative and Washington salonista, drew up the pledge in 1986 at the behest of Ronald Reagan (who had signed a major federal tax increase a few years earlier, but never mind). It was part of the Republicans' nascent "starve the beast" campaign, which postulated that since cutting public services would always be unpopular, the way to shrink the government was to give it little more than hardtack. The movement erupted into full bloom in 2001, when Congress passed the Bush tax cut package; at the time, Norquist crowed: "I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."..."

Protesters Against Wall Street
Protesters Against Wall Street: "As the Occupy Wall Street protests spread from Lower Manhattan to Washington and other cities, the chattering classes keep complaining that the marchers lack a clear message and specific policy prescriptions. The message — and the solutions — should be obvious to anyone who has been paying attention since the economy went into a recession that continues to sock the middle class while the rich have recovered and prospered. The problem is that no one in Washington has been listening.
At this point, protest is the message: income inequality is grinding down that middle class, increasing the ranks of the poor, and threatening to create a permanent underclass of able, willing but jobless people. On one level, the protesters, most of them young, are giving voice to a generation of lost opportunity...."
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”

Message to Bank of America & the Rest: "It's My Money! Hands Off!": "A few words about the recent decision by major banks to charge customers 5 bucks a month to use ATM cards for routine purchases.
Ah. October. Patio umbrellas down. Storm windows up. The turning of the leaves. The crisping of our ears. Playoff baseball. Halloween just a few weeks off. We’ll get back to the most bracing month of the year a bit later, but first a few words about the recent decision by major banks to charge customers 5 bucks a month to use ATM cards for routine purchases. And those few words are “You greedy stinking ravenous money- grubbing avaricious pigs.”
How much dough do you have to make? I mean I get it. You are not non- profit organizations. Few of us are. Advertently. Your task is to find new ways to make more moolah. Same here. You just happen to be a whole lot better at it than the rest of us. And with the scratch to rewrite the rules, the skids get greased in your favor. Good for you. But do you really need all the greenbacks? Every single dime? Really....?"

How Unpaid Internships Perpetuate Rampant Inequality in the US
How Unpaid Internships Perpetuate Rampant Inequality in the US: "Internship culture has become a source of class division, favoring the privileged, excluding others from opportunities granted to their better-off peers.
There is a job opening! It seems perfect—full time, in the non-profit sector, based in New York City. It's obviously a prestigious position—they're looking to hire someone with at least a masters’ degree, though in certain cases this can be interchangeable with five years of related work experience. There's only one small problem: it's unpaid.
According to statistics from the National Association for Colleges and Employers, the number of students at four-year colleges who took internships increased from nine percent to more than 80 percent between 1992 and 2008. Once the economy crashed, and a paying job became a luxury rather than a fact of life, many jobs were re-packaged as internships, promising experience and career connections in exchange for free labor...."
I had to do an unpaid internship that was required for me to graduate. It sucked. Spent 16 hrs a week away from my PAYING JOB so I could spent $10 a day parking at the hospital because I didn't feel safe walking 1/2 a mile there(free parking was about that far away). So not only did I not get paid, I had to pay the hospital for a service. Yey me. :|

First They Came For SpongeBob Now Fox News Has Attacked Sesame Street
First They Came For SpongeBob Now Fox News Has Attacked Sesame Street: "Fox News’ Eric Bolling is claiming because Sesame Street has introduced a Muppet in poverty it is only a matter of time until they introduce an evil Republican Muppet to attack the tea party.
Bolling said accused Sesame Street of getting pretty political, Juan Williams told Bolling that he was over the top, and he asked, “I get it, and boy, take this in the right way here, but are we singling out a poverty stricken little girl? Does my son need to see that? My little boy need to see that’s going on. You don’t single out other groups. You don’t single out the little gay Muppet, or the little black Muppet, or the little Hispanic Muppet do you? No, there are intertwined in the ensemble.” Williams pointed out that the hungry child serves a real purpose. The new Muppet talks about the reality for millions of children in America who go hungry every day...."

Occupy Wall Street Vs People of the Tea
Ok, first of all, I absolutely HATE this picture. Whomever came up with it, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. The Occupy Wall Street movement is a grassroots movement fighting for everyone, not just the rich. We're not funded by the Koch brothers. We're funded by your average American. We're fighting against the psychopaths on Wall Street who caused the crash in the first place. We're fighting for justice for everyone. We're not asking for Government handouts, we're fighting for our survival and asking for justice that was never served! We're fighting for everyone who lost their homes! We're fighting for everyone who lost their jobs! We're fighting against the corruption that has spread like cancer through our system!
