"If the United States is supposed to uphold "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" how can a sick or dying person without health care have these rights."
~Motivated In Ohio
"Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must - must - redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition re-distributional."

279 Seconds Of Serious Civil Disobedience
Tar Sands Action/ Josh Fox from JFOX on Vimeo.
A little correction to note: The narrator in the video says, “The tar sands produces an unbelievable 36 million tons of carbon dioxide per day.” What he actually meant is that the tar sands produces 36 million tons of carbon dioxide per year—not per day. Just to give you an idea of how bad this stuff really is, the tar-sands project in Alberta produced 46 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2009 alone.
Pastor Wants Atheist Registry to Track Atheists like Sex Offenders
Pastor Wants Atheist Registry to Track Atheists like Sex Offenders: "“No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him.” – Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson and his idealism be damned. What internet pastor Mike Stahl wants is an “atheist registry” to keep track of these dangerous elements in our society, like people who don’t believe in god, or any gods. This is a story right out of Nazi Germany. What’s next? Will we have our children “outing” us as atheists and pagans and heretics, and turning us over to the fundamentalist morality police to be conveniently culled from the herd?
Now as a disclaimer, I’m no atheist myself. I’m a polytheist. I should make that plain at the outset. But I don’t lose any sleep over people believing or not believing in my gods. I take Thomas Jefferson’s attitude toward the whole belief thing: “it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” Live and let live. I really don’t care what other people believe unless they try to force their belief or non-belief on me. Then we have a problem....."

Contrary To GOP Claims, Small Businesses Say Taxes And Regulation Aren’t Holding Back Hiring
Contrary To GOP Claims, Small Businesses Say Taxes And Regulation Aren’t Holding Back Hiring: "Predictably, Republicans reacted to today’s dismal jobs number — which showed that zero net jobs were created in August — by blaming the supposed avalanche of taxes and regulations put in place by the Obama administration. “Private-sector job growth continues to be undermined by the triple threat of higher taxes, more failed ‘stimulus’ spending, and [...]"

Runaway CEO Pay Helped Create the Economic Crisis; So Why Are Politicians Still Covering For Rich Execs?
Runaway CEO Pay Helped Create the Economic Crisis; So Why Are Politicians Still Covering For Rich Execs?: "A new study looks at the worst executive excesses--while Congress continues to help CEOs hide their outrageous pay rates from the public.
A global catastrophe occurs. An outraged public shakes pitchforks at the corporate culprits. Lawmakers respond. They propose some modest new laws that require corporations to more fully disclose what they’re doing. Corporate America, unchastened, goes ballistic.
Sound familiar? We’ve seen this story play out before. In fact, we’ve seen this story play out after almost every grand corporate catastrophe over the last 80 years....."

Eric Cantor Kicks the Jobless Out of His Version of A Townhall
Eric Cantor Kicks the Jobless Out of His Version of A Townhall: "Last night in Virginia, over 200 desperate citizens struggled to have their voices heard by their representative Eric Cantor (R-VA) during what he claimed was an “open meeting” and is the only type of “townhall” he does.
The announcement on the Richmond Tea Party website (because all of Cantor’s constituents are members of the Tea Party and they all have access to the internet.):
Got anything to say to Eric Cantor ?
Here’s your chance…CANTOR ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING AUGUST 31, 2011
Congressman Eric Cantor of Virginia’s 7th District invites his constituents to attend the next Cantor Advisory Council Meeting. (This is what he calls a Town Hall)
Turns out, this wasn’t really your chance to say anything to Eric. That is, unless you already agree with him. You know that’s how we roll in a democracy! This is Cantor’s version of taxation with representation, people, because when his constituents showed up in the same hotel as his advisory council, having rented a ballroom room upstairs from their out-of-touch and unreachable representative in order to demand jobs, they were thrown out of the hotel. NBC12 Decision Virginia noted, “The Holiday Inn was soon guarded by Chesterfield and Capitol Police officers, who stopped each car before entering the parking lot to ask if they were guest of the hotel or the event.”...."

Five GOP Presidential Candidates Have Proposed Eliminating Capital Gains Tax, A $1 Trillion Giveaway To The Rich
Five GOP Presidential Candidates Have Proposed Eliminating Capital Gains Tax, A $1 Trillion Giveaway To The Rich: "Yesterday, 2012 GOP presidential long-shot Jon Huntsman unveiled an economic plan that, in addition to including standard conservative tropes about repealing the Affordable Care Act and the Dodd-Frank financial reform law, would eliminate the capital gains tax entirely. This proposal came just a week after Huntsman hinted that he may be open to raising the [...]"

Bachmann Says Earthquake and Hurricane Are Messages From Her God
Bachmann Says Earthquake and Hurricane Are Messages From Her God: "So this is how it goes…Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition (TVC), who says she is proud to be a member of a hate group, who is mocking “Islamists” as silly for saying the DC earthquake was a sign from Allah, is also one of the people behind Michele Bachmann’s Super Pac, according to Right Wing Watch. And Michele Bachmann, whom she is therefore supporting for President, has just announced that the earthquake and Hurricane Irene was a message from God – yes, their god killed 27 people to send a message that we need to cut spending.
Bachmann now says that was a “joke” – akin, I suppose, to the watermelon patch around the White House and Barack the Magic Negro…I think somebody needs to buy Republicans a sense of humor, if this is the best they can do. Of course, we know it wasn’t a joke at all and even if it were it is both obscene and reprehensible. This is how Bachmann thinks, as she has revealed to us many times already. This is how the whole lunatic lot of them think...."

"We the corporations"
"We the corporations""n January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions.
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:
* Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
* Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our vote and participation count.
* Protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate "preemption" actions by global, national, and state governments.
The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule. We Move to Amend...."

Atheists Exclude Themselves, Says California City Councilwoman
Atheists Exclude Themselves, Says California City Councilwoman: "We know full well the Founding Fathers put into the Constitution that the federal government could not establish any religion as the “official” religion of the United States. After the horrors of centuries of religious war in Europe, they wanted no state-sponsored religion in the New World (the First Amendment). Nor did they require any office-holder adhere to any particular religion, including Christianity, since the Constitution says so (Article 6, paragraph 3). Yet time and again we see American fundamentalist trying to not only legislate their religion, but legislate against other religions and against atheism.
In California, an atheist named Stuart Bechman, 51 stands at the center of this conflict. He wants atheist soldiers honored next to a poster in Simi Valley City Hall that say “God Bless America” and “God Bless You.” He had already tried to get those unconstitutional posters removed, unsuccessfully (such is the nefarious “war” on Christianity that such blatant abuse of the First Amendment needs to be brought to court in the first place)...."

Court Rules Republicans Who Confiscate Cameras At Town Halls Are Violating 1st Amendment
Court Rules Republicans Who Confiscate Cameras At Town Halls Are Violating 1st Amendment: "According to a recent Federal Appeals court ruling, Republican members of Congress who confiscate citizens’ cell phones or cameras and do not allow filming at town halls are violating their constituents First Amendment rights.
One of the ways that unpopular House Republicans have been trying to dodge the wrath of their angry constituents during the August recess is to not allow filming at their town halls. Last week, Rep. Steve Chabot of Ohio directed on duty police officers to confiscate the cameras of citizens who tried to film his responses at a recent town hall. Chabot justified this behavior as necessary for the protection of his constituents, but a Federal Court ruling on Friday makes it clear that the Republicans who engaging in this behavior are violating the First Amendment rights of their constituents....."
