My kids were taught to tip -- I spent plenty of time working as a waitress and bartender in my misspent youth so, of course, I tend to overtip no matter what kind of restaurant its.
I try and teach my friends to tip. My best friend won't leave a bad one because I was a server and heard about all of the stuff I went through. I plan on doing the same to my future kids though.

And always over tip in inexpensive restaurants. It is not your servers fault the place is inexpensive.
