Condemnation of Afghanistan video over the top, says Rick Perry

Condemnation of Afghanistan video over the top, says Rick Perry: "Republican presidential hopeful said that marines purportedly shown urinating on corpses should not be prosecuted

The Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry has accused the Obama administration of "over-the-top rhetoric" and "disdain for the military" with its condemnation of a video that purportedly shows four US marines urinating on corpses in Afghanistan.

Perry's comments also put him at odds with Senator John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate armed services committee.

Perry said the marines involved should be reprimanded but not prosecuted on criminal charges.

The Texas governor said on CNN's State of the Union programme: "Obviously, 18 and 19-year-old kids make stupid mistakes all too often. And that's what's occurred here...."

Google Debate Crowd Boos Rick Perry For Suggesting They Have A Heart

Google Debate Crowd Boos Rick Perry For Suggesting They Have A Heart: "Let’s just start off with the basic recipe for crazy during which the audience booed a gay soldier and booed Rick Perry for having compassion. Tonight’s Fox News Google GOP primary debate was moderated by Fox News’ Bret Baier with Fox News anchors Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace as panelists.

No, we haven’t gotten to the crazy yet...."

Why You Don't Want Rick Perry Making Decisions About Your Sex Life

Why You Don't Want Rick Perry Making Decisions About Your Sex Life: "The belief that sex is "immoral" pushes Conservatives to support abstinence-only, sex-is-immoral education and policy, even though it is proven to be harmful.

Governor Rick Perry of Texas has thrown his hat into the presidential contender ring, and his nascent campaign has quickly came to demonstrate why the blurring of the distinctions between church and state are so dangerous, especially to women. His campaign has surprisingly been even more of a demonstration of this than that of Michele Bachmann’s, even though the mainstream media consensus is Bachmann is more of a theocrat. Part of the reason is that Perry has been the governor of Texas for over a decade now, and his experience and power as an executive has simply given him more chances to blur the lines....and more reasons to be called out for it...."

Why 'Constitutional Conservatives' Like Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry Have No Respect for the Constitution

Why 'Constitutional Conservatives' Like Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry Have No Respect for the Constitution: "It's ironic that those claiming fealty to the constitution habitually thumb their noses at its most sacred principle.

A great irony of our political discourse is that those who describe themselves as “constitutional conservatives” display not only habitual ignorance of what our founding documents proscribe, but also show blatant scorn for the most important principle they enshrine: the separation of powers.

For much of our history, people across the political spectrum laid competing claims to being the true champions of the United States constitution, but in recent years that ground has largely been ceded to the far-right. When the Tea Partiers stormed into Congress, one of their first acts was a bit of political theater arranged by Tea Party caucus leader Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota: reading the Constitution (with the embarrassing bits edited out) aloud on the floor of the House..."

Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry’s Politics Betray The Teachings of Christ

Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry’s Politics Betray The Teachings of Christ: "In American politics it has become normal for candidates to brand themselves in order to garner support from special interest groups, voters and campaign donors alike even though there are times when voters are pitched one brand and campaign donors hear a totally different storyline. There is not always a distinct correlation between a candidate’s advertised credentials and their experience or actions, but some politicians are so far-removed from their public expression of themselves that voters cannot help but be aware of the divergence. Two of the Republicans seeking the nomination for the presidency have branded themselves as evangelical Christians who will transform the country into a “nation under the Christian god,” and although they are true believers, their actions as politicians are far-removed from a follower of Christ...."
