"I tried to live on food service wages and failed. I was constantly exhausted, humiliated, and terrified of getting sick, because getting sick might mean losing my apartment. One bad month stood between me and desperate poverty. And, as any person who's ever been in similar straits knows, there's nothing that makes you feel less powerful than the constant daily fear of not having enough money to live on. When I wasn't able to afford the things I needed to live, I didn't feel like a feminist. I didn't feel strong and proud -- a sister in struggle to the kind of college-educated white-collar women who would run me ragged and then sail out of the restaurant without tipping me. I didn't even feel human. There is nothing more objectifying than poverty."
~Sarah Katherine Lewis
One of the few new quotes that I have added to my Favorite Quotes page.
"If the United States is supposed to uphold "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" how can a sick or dying person without health care have these rights."
~Motivated In Ohio
"Any health care funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized and humane must - must - redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition re-distributional."
~Donald Berwick

That is absolutely accurate.
It really is.
Been there; done that. Still there; doing it. Social Security might be an 'entitlement' but it doesn't entitle one to much. Sigh. I'm too old for this crap.
I've been there my whole college life, and so far in my post-college life. I'm hoping things will turn around once I start my new job.
And that is so true with the SS stuff. They haven't raised what people on it are getting in a few years even with the prices of everything going up. It's bullshit.
We did get a raise last month -- I think mine was about eight bucks & ODJFS cut my food assistance $100. Fortunately, I'm frugal. I stretch my dollars until the eagle smiles and when I pick up a penny, Lincoln screams. I just hope Miss Ruby (my lil' old car) doesn't require any heavy maintenance.
I hope so too. Car problems are never any fun :(
